Amigzaj Five’s tracks 2,3, and 4 is based on the research works of scientist Royal R. Rife and his legacy. Starting from 1934, Rife experimented with audio frequency instruments in the La Jolla Clinic. He used them to tune to the vibration frequencies of certain viruses and bacterial diseases, and killed them by applying corresponding electronic vibration to the living tissue. Based on this research, Blazsek has constructed a sound transmitter that mixes the sound of a digital oscillator with feedback from the exhibition space, tuning his performance to the frequencies of the space much like Rife’s earlier frequency experiments from the 1930s.

Modified sound waves were mixed with field-recordings from the former locations of the experiments: Rife Lab in the Scripps Cottages now at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla California, and the former Linda Vista Hospital in Los Angeles.

Tracks:

Track 1 (amigzaj-four) The soundscape was built from recordings made in Prague during an artist-in-residence program at FUTURA Centre for Contemporary Art in 2011. It also includes field-recordings from Budapest and Ljubljana.

Tracks 2 (birdcage), 3 (point loma), and 4 (amigzaj-five) were performed live at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE) in 2012 for the exhibition Shells, Bells, Steps, and Silences by Steve Roden and curated by Robert Takahashi Crouch.

Track 2 (birdcage) was performed at The Wulf in Los Angeles in 2011.

Tracks 2, 3, and 4 were rerecorded in 2012.
